Didactic.

A friend of mine said he'd been hearing this word a lot lately (which is funny cause now I have too) but a group of us couldn't come up with a clear definition.

adj.

Inclined to teach or moralize excessively.

Didacticism is also an artistic philosophy that emphasises instructional and informative qualities in various types of art.

In oppostion to this philosophy stood the French poet, Théophile Gautier who adopted the phrase art for art's sake as a bohemian creed in the nineteenth century.

In fact, the Latin version of that slogan, ars gratia artis, is used by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and appears in the oval around the roaring head of the lion in their logo.

Hmm.

More nonsense.

All the sad comedians...

Hey - alright - I might be goddamned.

PS - I am looking for someone who enjoys Modest Mouse enough to let me by them a ticket to see a concert with me in Santa Barbara on 8/6.

Lyrics.

Drunkenly I shout the wrong words from the backseat while watching never-ending dark shapes and even more late hours pass so quickly by. In a thought between a million other thoughts I wonder if the right words would do this moment any sort of coincidental justice. I try very hard to tell myself to look them up the next chance I had and share them with you. Here:

"Who will get me to a party? Who do I have yet to meet? You-- you look a bit like coffee and you taste a little like me. How can I keep me from moving? Now I need a change of scenery. Just listen to me. I won't pretend to understand the movement of the wind or the waves out in the ocean, or how like the hours I change. Softly, slowly, plainly, blindly. Oh me, oh my!"

Downtime.

My weekend is actually Sunday and Monday and though I should really be offering to do damn near anything in the way of casual employment during this downtime-- cause I’m, you know, poor-- I usually end up simply basking in the glory of my free time. How I love a weekend.

Saturday night was a long and mostly unprofitable shift ending with a trip to the bowling alley for drinks and pool with my coworkers. Sunday morning I awoke, a little groggy, and went to the beach with Craig and Nicole. I hadn’t yet seen the beach in full swing (weekends between June and July) and good God there were a lot of people. Like a mall. With sand. And the pacific ocean is really, really cold no matter how hot it is outside. Nonetheless, I had a good time; got a little sun and played in the waves. Later that evening I met up with some friends at Friday’s. A+. I now have 2 oversized martini glasses that may or may not have been illegally acquired. Also, my Canadian friend Phil loaned me part of his West Wing collection which I have been watching like a fiend and can now understand what all the hoopla was about. Its fantastic.

Yesterday I was fairly productive. Got the new tires for the blue car and some goop for the radiator which is looking to be effective at controlling the small leak I had. That, with some primo gas treatment and a clean air filter, has hopefully upgraded my ride to summer-trip ready. The apartment is clean now as well, and laundry is done.

Today will include a trip to the grocery store and/or the gym before I head into the restaurant. I’m back on track with the hunt for an agent after getting a little distracted last time, and I’m sending big pictures of my goofy face to a couple little projects here and there. Keep the fingers crossed. Later.

The cat came back.

Oh, nick, and his love of procrastination. I think I have once again returned from another little vacation away from reality and I'm fairly well rested.

I do have a bit of a sinus infection but my huge stash of Mexican amoxicillina should attack and conquer this annoying illness.

Summer is here, and I'm saving my pennies (literally) so I can afford $3.50 a goddamned gallon and get my ass to the beach as often as possible. Gotta get me a body-board as well.

Trying to find a way out of this stupid city at some point soon. I'd like to drive around a bit, visit my homies and see some new places. Must find an unexpected source of income first. If anyone has worked out a decent plan for robbing a bank and needs a getaway driver please send detailed proposals to Crap-Hole, CA., Attn: dr. nick.
